With Your Latte

With Your Latte

Here’s the 411 on a  new series i’m calling “With Your Latte”

A few weeks ago I began to read through the bible in chronological order. I’m not sure how the smart people figured out who and what came first – but I am glad that some group took that initiative. I am using the NLT (New Living Translation) via the YouVersion app on my iPad and Droid. I chose this translation and this app  for a couple of reasons. For one I have an iPad and thought it’d be cool to have the people at Starbucks see me using it.  Also, the NLT  is a pretty good read as far as an overview of the scriptures are concerned. Truth be known, the MAIN reason I chose this translation and this app is the narrator.  The dude doesn’t have a British accent –  a  usual requirement for formal biblical narration.  I mean, what’s a good Jesus movie without Jesus, the disciples, and the Jews  having British accents. This guy doesn’t even have an authoritative voice  like Charlton Heston. He just reads it in good ole American English.

You see, I am what educators refer to as an, “auditory learner.”  That means I learn best when I can hear what is being presented. It is not unusual for me to look away when someone is sharing something with me so that I can fully concentrate on what is being said….and yes, I tend to read out loud. Both the aforementioned kept my parents ticked off. Give me a movie over a book anytime. This bible app allows me to read along as the narrator reads…a two-for-one deal.  As I go I am able to bookmark verses that I want to be able to quickly locate later.

That  last sentence is what leads me to write today.

Each weekday, or as close to to that goal as I can get, I am going to take one of that days bookmarked scriptures and share here why in fact I highlighted it. I am calling the series, “With Your Latte.” The plan is to keep each post both short and interesting.  Think of this series like a biscotti, or a Stella Dora  breakfast treat…Just a little something to go along with your morning coffee to help  jump start your day.

As I am writing this post I am realizing that I just made a year long commitment both to myself and the readers. Should I delete this post now? Pray about it? I don’t think so. I would love to know your thoughts along the way.

Looking forward to it! Also, I’ve been using the NLT on my app too, I enjoy it!
